4th City’s public hearing on market and mall project failed

by Mao R. Ramiscal

Alaminos City - “Unorganized and unprepared”. That’s how the tens of attendees described the unsuccessful public hearing held at Don Leopoldo Sison Auditorium recently.

This, cropped up when representatives from the LGU which included SP members Ma. Angela Braganza, Felix de Castro and Tess Diego. Atty. Henry Onia and Engr. Mario Mabalot failed to provide sufficient answers to the queries of the people regarding the proposed project of market and mall in the city.

GM Rolando Reinoso of Panelco I, who, after citing some flaws in the contract exclaimed that the project is more advantageous in the part of the contractor and the city government is left to suffer.

However, Atty. Henry Onia, city legal counsel, and member of the technical committee (TEC) of the PBAC was adamant on the stand of the city government that the said contract is beneficial to the cityfolks.”

“The PBAC will not recommend the contractor, if we know that it would fail the desires of the city government, “Onia declared.

But what caused the ire of the people when the said representatives from the executive and legislative department of the LGU exchange feigning ignorance on the presence of the amended contract, thus, creating negative reactions.

Due to inconsistencies and contradicting statements regarding the controversial “amended contract” claimed by Atty. Onia, cityfolks clamored for another public hearing with the presence of the revised contract.

Meanwhile, an observer who requested anonymity questioned the way the public officials handled the public-hearing, citing his observation that Atty. Onia and Engr. Mabalot from the executive department seemed to be the only responsible and well-knowing about the project.

“This only proves to show the both department of the LGU does not conform their decisions. They should not have manifested their division to the public,” he said.
