The City's First Barangay Election

CANDIDATES' ORIENTATION
July 3, 2002 - Through the efforts of the City Government and the Comelec officials here in Alaminos City, led by Mr. Nazario B. Radoc II and his staff held an Orientation aiming to inform all the aspiring candidates regarding the rules and regulations set by Commission on Election. This Orientation was held at Don Leopoldo Sison Auditorium.

Representatives from Department of the Interior and Local Government based in La Union were present to give their support. They cited some good qualities of candidates and emphasized the qualifications of a good and dedicated public servant. Despite heavy rains, candidates from 39 barangays (from Kapitan down to their Kagawads) were patiently listened to the speeches that were delivered. Some Sangguniang Kabataan candidates were present during the orientation but most of them were in school attending their classes. The gathering ended successfully and the people hope for a peacefull, honest, and orderly election. This proves that we have good leaders now and hopefully the next batch will be as good.

ELECTION DAY
July 15, 2002 - Election Day, at about eight o'clock in the morning was a cloudy day, voting centers in all 39 barangays of Alaminos City opened. Voters of Alaminos City show their support to this election despite the damages done by typhoon Gloria. Voters line up in front of the door of their respective precinct, where the COMELEC list of voters was posted. They located their voter's number and proceeded to the voting area. Inside each precinct, Board of Election Tellers verified each voter and were ready to assist in the voting process.

Judge Rivera, aspiring Kagawad Belen Ranches Alvarado together with her mother cast their votes during the first hour of voting at the Voting Centers in Central Elementary School. Only Partial Returns are available because of the slow process of hand counting each vote.
- Joseph Soriano
