YOU CAN HELP SAVE LIVES!
|
|
The Philippines National Red Cross or PNRC is known to
most people as the primary source of blood in the country.
While this is true, not enough people are aware that the
PNRC is into nearly every facet of emergency and community
health care you can name. It all stems from a simple yet
daunting mission:
TO SAVE LIVES
|
The PNRC, like all Red Cross chapters
across the globe, serves as the key link between those
who need help and those who can help. For instance,
in the Philippines, the Red Cross provides relief to victims
of typhoons, earthquakes and volcanic eruption by way of food
and medicine assistance. You too can help the Red Cross through
your generous donations and dedicated commitment as a volunteer.
This simple primer seeks to give you a brief overview of the
many life-saving PNRC services which you can help. |
 |
Ridden
by natural and man-made disasters through its history, the
Philippines is fortunate to have a full-blown disaster relief
service from the PNRC.
This dedicated team, which includes trained personnel and
volunteers from more than 80 chapters, is most active helping
displaced families and the injured during typhoons, floods,
fires, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, and other disasters
- before, during and at the aftermath of such events.
This team makes provisions for food, shelter first aid,
medical health social services, and livelihood services.
|
 |
This
most famous of the PNRC programs is, of course, its blood
program. And rightly so, since the PNRC is truly the lead
player in the effort to provide ample and continuing supply
of usable blood for those in need.
The Blood Program promotes voluntary blood donation and
ensures the constant supply of safe blood. It is also responsible
for efficient management of blood processing facilities
nationwide. Likewise, it provides for safe storage and delivery
services of blood.
There are currently 44 Chapter Blood Centers around the
country.
|
 |
This
program seeks to help the vulnerable and underprivileged
to stay healthy. It begins with an intensive program of
training for registered nurses as well as housewives and
other individuals who must seek to the health of their family.
This service then provides basic health education and services
to the community.
|
 |
As
the name implies, this program seeks to expand the number
of people in the Philippines who have a working knowledge
of live-saving and first aid techniques.
Year-around training programs are mounted on First-Aid,
Basic Life Support (such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation),
and even Accident Prevention.
This same team is also charged with seeing to ambulance
services, beach patrol, and life guarding.
|
 |
Not
all disasters involve physical injury.
That is why the PNRC has established this very special
team to promote family and community welfare during times
of extremes emotional and psychological stress.
Social Services come in the form of counseling and guidance
as well as providing search services for missing relatives
and establishing communications links with those who are
aware from home. More than this, this PNRC service works
hard to provide medically-approved recreation programs for
the seek and the impaired as well as offer simple training
programs for those who seek to enhance their inborn talents
despite great handicaps.
|
 |
The
youth, as with all else, are the future of the PNRC. Which
is wide a separate and active service involves them and
them alone.
The Red Cross Youth has embraced three (3) main objectives:
To develop and practice the ideals of service.
Promote personal and community health.
Foster international friendship and world peace.
